Jewelry Care

By following a few easy steps you can maintain the longevity of your precious jewelry.

Jewelry Facts

Silver in its pure form is a very soft metal. Since it is too soft to use for jewelry, it's mixed with other metals in order to make it more durable. Sterling silver is the result of a popular silver mixture called alloy.

Sterling Silver tarnishes due to oxidation; which is caused by the interaction of certain elements, such as oxygen and sulfur. Some items that will tarnish your jewelry are: rubber bands, household cleaning products, eggs, and onions. Tarnish first appears yellowish in color then changes to brown or black.

Jewelry Care

  • Avoid contact with chemicals (eg. chlorine, bleach), perfume, or hairspray.
  • Wear jewelry often, as this is one of the best ways to prevent it from tarnishing.
  • Wash jewelry regularly with mild soap and water.
  • To clean tarnished jewelry, use a silver-polishing cloth or silver dip solution.*
  • Store jewelry in an airtight ziploc bag or jewelry box.
* Don't use dip on pearls, crystals or stones.
